Brantome Villa, with its beautiful country setting two hours drive north of Auckland, 45 minutes to the stunning Bay of Islands and 10 minutes north of Whangerei, is a great base for holidays to New Zealand and exploring Northland; Bay of Islands, Paihia, Russell, the Kauri Coast and the Poor Knights marine reserve.
The Poor Knights was named by Jacques Cousteau as one of the top dive locations in the world. The Northland area boasts five top golf courses, numerous unspoilt beaches and scenic walks. Closer to home explore the beautiful Whangarei Heads, McLeods Bay, Ocean Beach and the Ruakaka Coast for swimming, world-class fishing and diving opportunities, and if you are lucky, watching doplhins at play (dolphins above: Ocean Beach in Whangarei).
Whangarei Northland New Zealand Activities
Whangarei, known as ‘City of 100 Beaches’, has many unspoilt sandy beaches all within easy reach of Brantome Villa. Whangarei City and Quayside Town Basin is a must, with a number of great cafés, Art & Craft Galleries, shopping opportunities and restaurants, including the award winning À Deco New Zealand restaurant.
For golf enthusiasts there are a number of outstanding Golf Clubs in the area to choose from. There are also beautiful walks such as AH Read Memorial Kauri Park, Paranui Falls and Harold Menzies Scenic Reserve. Explore the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and visit Longview Estate Winery, 5 minutes south of Whangarei on SH1.
Visit Zion Wildlife Gardens, the big cat sanctuary, where you can see some of the world's most endangered big cats including White Lions and Royal White Tigers. Zion Wildlife tours include guided walks of one and two hours duration. For an upclose encounter with Tigers, book the Tiger Walk or meet and pat a big cat on the Big Cat Tour. And when cubs are available, interact with them on the Cub Encounter Tour. Advance tour bookings are essential.
